What we collect

• Account email (for sign-in codes)
• Display name (optional)
• Your entries (the text you write)
• Your highlight selections (best of week / month / year)
• App preferences (notification settings, reminder times, language, theme)

Where data is stored

• On your device: entries may be cached locally for offline support. Authentication tokens are stored using secure storage. Notification preferences and reminder times are stored locally.
• In the cloud: if you are signed in with an account, your entries and highlights are synced to a Supabase-hosted database linked to your account.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, the App schedules local notifications on your device at times you choose. Notification preferences are stored on your device. We do not use push notifications and do not sell or share your notification settings.

Email changes

You can change the email address associated with your account. A confirmation link is sent to both the old and new email addresses. The change only takes effect after confirmation.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not share your entries with third parties. Service providers (e.g. Supabase) process data only to provide app functionality.

Community sharing

You may choose to share an entry anonymously with the Community feed. Shared entries are visible to all authenticated users. Your name, email, and account details are never attached to shared entries. You can delete your shared entries at any time from the Community screen.

Content moderation

When you share content to the Community, the text is sent to an automated moderation system (OpenAI Moderation API) to check for harmful content such as hate speech, harassment, and violence. Only the text of the entry is sent — no user identity, email, or account information is included. The moderation result (allowed or flagged) is returned immediately and the text is not stored by the moderation service beyond processing. No human review takes place.

Third-party services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase: authentication, database hosting, and serverless functions
• OpenAI Moderation API: automated content safety checks for community-shared content (text only, no user identity)

We do not share your private entries, email, or account details with any third party except as necessary to operate these services.

Account deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen. This permanently removes all your data from our servers, including entries, highlights, profile information, and notification records. Local caches on your device are also cleared. This action cannot be undone.

Retention & deletion

Your entries stay in the App until you delete them. Individual entries can be removed, which deletes them from your local cache and (when online) from the synced database. Signing out clears local caches on your device.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us or using the account deletion feature in the App. If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to data portability and to restrict or object to processing.

Community post expiry

Entries shared to the Community feed are automatically removed after 48 hours. After this period, shared posts are deleted from our servers.

Analytics & tracking

The App does not use analytics, advertising trackers, or third-party tracking SDKs. We do not collect usage analytics or behavioural data.

Children

The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

1. Acceptance

By using Best Thing (“the App”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. What the App does

Best Thing lets you write one daily note (“entry”) capturing the best thing about your day. You can then choose highlights (best of week, month, year). Once you choose the best thing of a week, entries in that week become locked.

The App also offers optional notification reminders at times you choose and the ability to share entries as images.

3. Your content

You own the content you write. You grant the App permission to store and process your content solely to provide the service (syncing, backups, and displaying your entries on your devices).

4. Accounts

Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email. You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure.

You can change the email address associated with your account from the Profile screen. A confirmation is required on both the old and new email addresses.

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from the Settings screen. This action is irreversible.

5. Acceptable use

Please do not abuse the App, interfere with its operation, or attempt to access data that is not yours.

5a. Community guidelines

When sharing content to the Community feed, the following are prohibited:

• Hate speech, discrimination, or content targeting individuals or groups
• Harassment, bullying, or threatening language
• Spam, advertising, or promotional content
• Sexually explicit content
• Content promoting self-harm or violence

Violations may result in your content being removed and, in severe or repeated cases, your account being suspended or terminated.

5b. Content moderation

Content shared to the Community is automatically checked by an AI moderation system. We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these guidelines. While we strive for accuracy, automated moderation is not perfect and may occasionally flag content incorrectly or miss violations. If you believe your content was incorrectly flagged, please contact us.

6. Pricing

The App is currently free to use. We may introduce optional paid features or subscriptions in the future. Core functionality available at the time of your registration will remain accessible.

7. Disclaimers

The App is provided “as is” without warranties. Best Thing is not medical advice and is not a substitute for professional support.

8. Changes

We may update the App and these Terms from time to time. Continued use after an update means you accept the updated Terms.

9. Community post expiry

Entries shared to the Community feed are visible for 48 hours and then automatically removed. You can remove your shared entries at any time before expiry.

10. Age requirement

You must be at least 16 years old to use the App.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Germany.
